I want to buy a lap top but have no idea how.?
In researching stores, I found the smaller Mom and Pop Computer shops far more friendly than the big box stores, but here is what I have found already.Pls help me choose. Keep in mind my use is mainly to check my emails, Facebook, internet, maybe print a few documents off.
Small local owned store had "Refurbished" laptops.
1) HP 1.7 GHZ, 1GB Ram 60GB HD, 12"display, wireless – price $299.00
2) IBM 1.5GB Ram 40GB HD, 14" display, DVD/CD burner Windows XP wireless – price $349.00
Now, Future Shop has a sale on a emachine AMD Athlon Tf 20 Processor, 3GB Ram 250GB HD
Price – $399.00
So, do I go with refurbished, good service, or new for 100.00 more from the box store?
Help
The refurbished ones arnt good….
I say go new. You can get very cheap new laptop these days.
these are the min specs you should be after:
1.5GHz Processor
2GB RAM
150GB hard drive
Wifi
These specs will enable you to do all you want quite comfortably.
If you find a refurbished one with these specs or more go for it.
p.s. emachines while cheap, are not good at all! my friend has one and the parts are quite literally falling off.
Same goes for dell.
But yeah the specs for the emachine are definatly good!

Consider going with a netbook. Mine was $200 new once I get the rebate back, and it has a one year warranty because it’s new.

The refurbished ones barely comply with today’s standards. Defiantly get the $399.00 one.
